South Coast Fencing Center is home to the largest fencing center in Orange County.  The center is committed to developing successful athletes in a positive training environment.  We have introductory programs for those who want to try out fencing for the first time.  We offer intermediate programs for those looking to expand and develop their techniques.  Competitive programs are available for those interested in competing at the regional, national and international levels.  We welcome students from the ages of 7 and up, offering both group and private instruction for all experience levels.

SCFC is a member of the United States Fencing Association (USFA) and was founded in 1999.  We are active at the competitive level, regularly fielding athletes at North America Cups and National Championship events.  Our coaching staff and students include Olympians as well as former World Cup finalists, members of the US National Team and national champions.

We have a 5,400 square foot facility, with over 3,600 square feet of fencing floor on two levels.  Ten fully electric strips are available to the fencers.  Membership amenities include weights and gym equipment, lockers, practice targets, a study lounge for parents and kids, rental gear, a full-service armory with repair staff on site and a store for new fencing equipment.

Introductory programs are available to new students and we invite you to contact us to schedule a free trial class at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or (714) 549-2946.

Clinton Kershaw joins SCFC's coaching staff

The Center welcomes coach Clinton to our staff, starting this week!  Clinton will be focusing on working with coach Brenden and our foil program. In addition to working with our group classes he is now available for private lessons throughout the week.  To sign up for lessons with coach Clinton simply log in to our website using our normal scheduling system.

Clinton Kershaw has been involved with the sport of foil fencing for twenty-two years. He has served on the U.S. Senior National Team, three U.S. World Teams, and was a three-time U.S. National Champion at the cadet and junior level. Clinton has competed at numerous World Cups internationally and North American Cups domestically over his competitive career. He began coaching nine years ago at the age of eighteen and after retiring from his competitive career in 2010, Clinton dedicated his fencing endeavors to solely teaching the sport of foil fencing. After coaching in New York City for three years at Empire United Fencing, Clinton returned to California to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy and to continue producing high level foil fencers of all ages.

Competitive seminar Friday, July 25

On Friday, July 25th, SCFC will be holding a seminar on how to link competitive athletics to life achievements.  We welcome Kelsey Minato to join us at the center for an evening of discussion.

Kelsey was the 2013-2014 Patriot League Basketball Player of the Year, Rookie and Player of the Year and Huntington Beach HS all-time leading scorer.  Her jersey has since been retired and she is a West Point graduate, class of 2016.

Please join us at the center on Friday, July 25th, to meet Kelsey and hear her insights on how competitive sports helped shape her life and on what it takes to succeed in sports, school and life.

After the presentation we will have a short question and answer period to be followed by open fencing.  We will be offering a free fencing lesson and a chance for beginners to find out what the great sport of fencing is all about.  Food and drinks will be served.

New Summer of Swordfighting camp July 30-August 1

We are very excited to be partnering with HEMA, the Historical European Martial Arts alliance in offering a brand new summer camp for those new to fencing or HEMA.

This will be a three day camp running from July 30 through August 1 with the same hours as our normal camp (9:30am to 4:30pm with early drop-off at 9am and late pick-up at 5pm). The morning sessions (9:30am-12:30pm) will be an introduction to fencing and the three weapons: foil, epee and saber.  We will have a lunch break from 12:30-1:30pm and HEMA will take over in the afternoon sessions, offering training on longswords, sword and buckler, dagger and other historical European weaponry.

Registration for the full camp is $200 or $75/day. For those interested in morning or afternoon sessions only the camp is $100.  As we are adding this camp at a relatively late date, we need your assistance with getting the word out.  If you know anyone who might be interested in this camp, please let them know about it.  We have flyers at the front desk if you would like to take some to distribute.

To register, please see Mary at the front desk or contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  The front office phone number is 714--549-2946.

Summer Foil/Saber camp #2 is just around the corner

SCFC will be holding the second of two summer camps for students next month.  It will be held from Monday through Saturday, August 4-9.  It is an all day camp (9:30am to 4:30pm with early drop-off starting at 9am).  Monday through Friday we will be focused on technical and tactical development; on Saturday we will be holding a tournament in the morning and a lunch and swimming in the afternoon for everyone to unwind.

Our first camp was a huge success!  We had 25 of our fencers attend and they saw dramatic improvement in that short time.  We encourage all of our fencers to attend this valuable camp, which will include components of conditioning, technical training, tactical bouting and lots of fencing!  Fencers of all levels are invited to attend, although we ask that you have at least 1 month of introductory classes completed before attending the camp.

To register, please sign up at the front desk.  We will be limiting the camp participant number to 24.  The cost for the 6 day camp is $300 or $75/day for partial camp (you can pick any number of days).
